What sets an HR professional apart? Experience, education, and certification. In today's hyper-competitive talent market, professionals who demonstrate their commitment to lifelong learning have an increasingly stronger chance to rise above the rest when being considered for coveted positions at top employers. Employers and recruiters are more often seeking advanced degrees as well as nationally recognized certifications and certificates in specialized disciplines. As HR has shifted from a tactical, administrative function focused on payroll and compliance to a critical strategic business partner focused on culture and engagement, talent acquisition and development, the importance and value of recruiting and retaining an HR team with the knowledge, confidence, and credibility to positively impact an organization has exponentially increased.

In the early stages of one's career, employers seek candidates with an associate's or higher degree plus HRCI's aPHR certification. At mid-level, employers seek candidates with a bachelor's or higher degree plus HRCI's PHR certification or the SHRM-CP certification. And at senior levels, employers are generally seeking candidates with a master's degree in Human Resources and HRCI's SPHR certification or the SHRM-SCP certification.

Experience, education, and certification is the winning combination for an aspiring HR professional. The Center for Professional Development at the University of Denver partners with HR Cert Prep Pros to provide a full range of HR certification preparation programs to meet the needs of HR professionals at all stages of their careers. These prep courses feature a robust and engaging student experience, including more instruction hours than other programs, evening and weekend formats, the opportunity for students to attend in person or virtually, and instructions who are SPHR-certified senior HR practitioners and consultants.
